How it works

Light the body recognises.

Red light therapy isn't new, and it isn't magic. It's a small, well-studied conversation between specific wavelengths of light and the energy-making parts of your cells. The result is a body that feels a little more itself.

i.

Your cells run on energy

Inside almost every cell in your body sit tiny power plants called mitochondria. They produce ATP — the energy that runs everything from clear thinking and steady mood to muscle recovery and bright skin.

ii.

Light is one of their fuel sources

Specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light — the same ones found in early-morning and late-evening sunlight — are absorbed by mitochondria and used to make more energy. Modern indoor life means most of us see almost none of it.

iii.

Ten minutes, daily, for years

A brief daily session of clinical-grade red and near-infrared light supplies what the modern day is missing. The effects are quiet but cumulative: better sleep, brighter skin, faster recovery, steadier mood.

Red & near-infrared

Two lights. Two depths.

Red light works at the surface — skin, the upper layers of tissue, the small blood vessels just beneath. It's the wavelength behind smoother, brighter skin and stronger hair.

Near-infrared light is invisible to the eye, but reaches several centimetres deeper — into muscles, joints, and the connective tissue beneath. Our panels emit both, simultaneously.

The spectrum

Six wavelengths. One synergy.

Each Red Light Home device emits six clinically-studied wavelengths simultaneously — three in the red spectrum, three in the near-infrared. Most competitors use two.

Why Red Light Home

The difference, line by line.

Most red light panels look similar from across the room. The differences are in the wavelengths, the LED engineering, the warranty, and the small things that decide whether a piece of equipment becomes part of your life — or quietly returns to its box.

Our story

Wellness without the theatre.

Red light therapy arrived in Britain wearing the wrong clothes. It came in performance metrics and biohacker forums, in clinical white plastic and sky-high pricing. Beautiful technology, dressed badly.

Red Light Home is the answer to a simple question: what would this look like if it was designed for the way British people actually live? Not a laboratory. Not a gym. A home, with rooms that have moods, and routines that have rhythm.

Our three pieces — a bulb, a panel, a pro panel — are built around evening light, slow mornings, and the small considered objects that belong in a well-loved house. Six clinical wavelengths. Three-year warranty. Thirty days to live with it.

The ritual

Ten minutes. Twice a day. That is the whole of it.

i.

Morning, with coffee

Ten minutes by the window with The Bulb or The Panel — alongside the first cup of the day. A gentle signal to body and mind that the day has begun.

ii.

Evening, before bath

The Pro Panel comes into its own here. Ten minutes of full-body warmth before you wash. Skin, muscles and nervous system, all attended to.

iii.

Daily, not perfectly

Consistency outranks intensity. A small daily session, kept up over months, will always do more than the perfect routine attempted once.

The first piece of wellness equipment I've owned that I'm not embarrassed to leave out on a shelf. It belongs in the house, not hidden in a cupboard.

Common questions

Things people tend to ask.

Six of the questions we hear most often. If yours isn't here, we're a small team and we genuinely answer the phone — between us we'll have a thoughtful answer for you within the working day.

Ask us directly
How long should each session be?

Ten to twenty minutes per area, with the panel between fifteen and fifty centimetres away. The closer you are, the shorter the session. The further away, the longer.

Listen to your body — there's no prize for going longer.

How often should I use it?

Daily, ideally. Three to five times a week is the realistic minimum to feel meaningful change. The benefits are cumulative — small, consistent sessions over months will always do more than the perfect routine attempted once a week.

How quickly will I notice anything?

Within a few days, most people notice a steadier feel through the day and an easier time falling asleep. Within two to four weeks, the visible changes begin — brighter skin, a fresher look, less tightness in overworked muscles.

Skin and hair changes take the longest because they follow your body's natural renewal cycle.

Do I need to wear protective glasses?

We include them in the box, but most people find that closing their eyes is enough. If your eyes are sensitive or the light feels uncomfortable, wear the glasses. If you have any pre-existing eye conditions, ask your doctor first.

Is it safe? Any UV exposure?

Yes, and no. Our panels emit only red and near-infrared wavelengths — no UV at all, and no risk of the skin damage associated with sunbeds or tanning lamps. They are UKCA, CE and RoHS certified, tested in European laboratories, and safe for daily use.

What's the difference between red and near-infrared light?

Red light works at the surface — skin, hair, the upper layers of tissue. It's the wavelength behind smoother, brighter skin.

Near-infrared light is invisible, and reaches several centimetres deeper — into muscles, joints and connective tissue. It's the wavelength behind faster recovery and easier movement.

Our panels emit both, simultaneously. Most people use them together; some prefer near-infrared only in the evening, since it doesn't visibly stimulate the eyes.

Which one should I start with — The Bulb, The Panel, or The Pro Panel?

The Bulb is for targeted use — your face in the morning, your hands at the desk, your shoulder after a long day.

The Panel is the everyday workhorse — bedside table or bathroom shelf, generous coverage, modest footprint.

The Pro Panel is for full-body sessions — chest to knees, with app control and a sunrise alarm. Best if red light therapy will be a daily anchor in your routine.

Letters from the Journal.

Considered writing on light, sleep, the science of mitochondria and the art of an evening routine. One thoughtful note a fortnight. Never more.
